SC hands down 3-month prison terms to 17 people for contempt of court

The Supreme Court on Sunday handed down three-month prison sentence and Rs 1000 fine to each of 17 people who had tried to obstruct hearing on Chamati land planning project recently.

A bench of justices Balram K.C and Tap Bahadur Magar announced the verdict, convicting the 17 people of ‘contempt of court’.

According to the SC verdict, they people will serve 30 days of active prison term, initial and final 15 days, and will remain on probation for two months.

The 17 people supporting the Chamati project had chanted slogans against the judges and had tried to vandlise the courtroom during a hearing on January 17. nepalnews.com mk Jan 27 08
