Deepak Maharjan boxes his way into the medal bags

Deepak Maharjan has brought the much needed respite to Nepal after he confirmed at least a bronze at the 16th Asian Games. Maharjan on Friday as he advanced to the semi-final of the men’s 81kg weight group brought in the happy news.
In the quarter-final he edged Sukum Kringakai of Thailand 4-0. If he wins his bout on Wednesday (24th November) then Maharjan will become the first boxer to bag atleast silver for Nepal in the Asian Games if not then he will enter the record books as the sixth pugilist to clinch bronze for Nepal.
Maharjan has also become the player to end the medal drought for Boxing in the Asian Games after two decades. It was in the 1990 Beijing Games that pugilist had brought home a medal.
After leading the first round 1-0, Maharjan added two more points in the second round and one more in the third round.
He had advanced to the quarter-final round via a walk over he had received in the first round. Maharjan, who is also the gold medal winner of the 10th SAG will now face Indian Boxer, Dinesh Kumar in the semi-final on Wednesday.
