why do you guy (sardarsing) want to listen their ( Nepe and Ashu) fight ?

People learn things differently.

I, for one, learn by

sharing whatever ideas I have,
writing about them,
having them subjected to objections and counter-points in public . . .
so that I would end up learning more.

Viewed this way, I do NOT see those "fights" with Nepe as fights.
Rather, I see them as attempts – even heated, no-holds-barred attempts –

to test
to try
to experiment with and
to think aloud

about diverse viewpoints in public with other real-named or anonymous Nepalis who would provide different but worth-thinking-about perspectives.

True, not all perspectives are valid or convincing. But how are we to know what is what unless we put our egos aside, be strong enough to not get tripped up in minor personality-issues that will inevitably arise and relentlessly discuss the merits and demerits of ideas in an only-ideas-matter manner?

That is why -- and this may come as a surprise to many -- by rubbing my ideas against what Nepe and others had to say, I ended up learning a lot about the strength and the weakness of my own ideas.

And that is what -- I suppose -- good challenging discussions and conversations are about: they are stimulating not because they tell you what you want to hear; they are stimulating because they help you to consider different viewpoints, and enrich your own learning.

Other than that, these days, having learnt a lot from Sajha friends, I am ready to move on to the next stage of cyber-frontier.

In a rather plodding manner, slowly but surely, I spend my spare time these days -- with a small but growing band of like-minded friends who are more IT-savvy than me -- developing a BLOG on Nepal-centric matters related to economics, business, finance, public policy, and law.

Maybe the whole thing will fizzle out in a few weeks; maybe it will grow to be an all-consuming passion. We’ll see.

But without making grand claims of any sort, I am just having fun for now -- testing
and experimenting, and making tons of mistakes to learn things quicker.

I will make appropriate announcements when things take a better shape.
Meantime, stay tuned; and thank to all your support as always.

I have been reading your postings in sajha for some time. i really admire u as an intellectual.you have some good logics and intresting way to put it. BUT sometimes you tend to go over the edge. I have noted 2 flaws (i am sorry but i did not get other word )
1. you use your beautiful language, talk sweet and try to convience. but sometimes you cannot mold truth, no matter how strong ur language is, 'truth is truth'. the world is not always gray...there are some blacks and whites too.
2. you said, "unless we put our egos aside". don't you think that applies to you too. may be in a subconcious way but ego is written all over ur writings. you try very hard to prove that you are above others.

It mustt have escaped from the notice of particularly irregular readers of Sajha, however, Ashu and I share similar views and temperament in all other matters except the political one. If you learn more from listening to opposite views, then I probably learned more on political matters than non-political matters from Ashu.

However, for a pure luck or some other reason, for more than two decades of my solitude political meditation, I happened to have a political conviction that has not YET required a revision, although the moment of truth is yet to come.

That does not mean everything from my fantasy/dream/vision have come true. A lot of things have turned out to be my unreasonable misgivings. One such misgiving was about our intelligentsia or so called civil society. The way I saw it, until not long ago, our intelligentsia was either drowned in the sweet illusion of twin-pillars of democracy or were uselessly cynic about everything without being creative to suggest ways to get the country out of the quagmire of war, mismanagement and cynicism.

The same went with the students. Students wings of ruling and major political parties were as corrupt, bullying and power-hungry as Mandales were during Panchayat kaal.

I thought it is going to take long before our adult and young intelligentsia turns to the idea of democracy, freedom and justice.

When Kathmandu's civil society took out a protest rally in June 2002 to protest the extra-judiciary killing of a pro-Maoist journalist, Krishna Sen, I thought the protest was fake.

Today, when they write on the Democracy Wall "My Nepal, serene Nepal, republic Nepal", I trust their sentiments.

I knew in my heart, it has to come to this point. However, I did not know, it was going to come this soon. That's where I was wrong.

I am sure a lot of my beliefs as well as misgivings will be tested in future and I will keep learning from life accordingly.

I see the state of Nepal rather confused state. Ganatantra seems to be approaching but Maoist seem to have taken the lead in getting the job done. Are Maoist the saviors of Nepal. Or they are more of a King G type of magic wand the Nepalese have been searching for all this time.

King G had a good opportunity after Feb 1, but he failed and the hopes and dreams of many Nepalese was betrayed.

Are Maoists the alterntes of King G and the corrupt SPA, is this how the people are looking at. Or are they going to wake up and see for themselves that King G or the SPAM are nothing but they themselves have to draw their future?

I would rather call it a state of uncertainty than a state of confusion. People are not confused at all. They are clear that monarchy should go and Maoists should join the new mainstream politics of democratic republic.

It is Girija who is in a state of confusion.

As for the Maoists, they are very clear that it is only establishing democratic republic in Nepal that will make them look hero. Anything less than that will make them a loser and anything more will make them stupid. When there is so much popular support for democratic republic and when that is exactly what is making them look hero are not going to let the chance go.

UML has already jumped in the bandwagon of republic. NC is not. There is a strong likelihood that NC will run in CA with the banner of "Ceremonial monarchy" (they might phrase it differently). In that case, the Maoist will dominate the election and will emerge in future politics as a major political party. If, somehow, NC decided to take up republic banner for CA election, then NC will keep on maintaining it's domination in Nepali politics for good.

No matter what NC decides, CA election will be won by republican candidates overwhelmingly. That will right then seal the fate of monarchy.

If NC is still run by Ceremonial monarchists and it tried to maneuver the proceeding of CA in favor of CM, a new round of andolan/war might begin. This one will be in primary control of the Maoists. Nothing can be predicted.

So, basically the best strategy for NC to maintain it's domination in Nepali politics and establish a stable political setup and peace in Nepal is to grab the agenda of democratic republic by the time candidates are announced for the election of CA.

The problem with NC is it's love with it's legacy and identity of monarchy loving/tolerating party. A republic means what BP Koirala dreamt for Nepal was wrong and wasteful. This is very difficult for Koirala family to accept. Will non-Koiralas dare to dream a new dream for NC's identity and move NC forward ?

We have six months to one year to find the answer.

What Girija dies before all this happens?
I heard Girija is in sort of life support and has difficulty in walking even with oxygen cylinder.

should the king pressure Girija to hold election as soon as possible i.e. before he dies?

should The king wait to hold election after the considerable
demonstration of the failures of SPA and let the janta cool down ?

Seems like Maoist will be the ultimate hero of this phase in Nepal. But don't the Maoist need to answer the 14,000 people that died in this mess. I am not talking about their justification of Kranti bina Shanti dai makhu.

Will people just forget it happened and move on?

How will the International community (the donor countries) look at it?

What would be the difference between the current UML and the future Maoists?

Is there a possibility of UML and Maoist uniting, since they seem to be heading the same path, if not these two leftist will be fighting and NC will grasp the majority.

If you hear out the Maoists, they still do not seem to be just going for "constitutional referendum", seems like they don't have the bone for democratic values. How can they be trusted? What will be the fate of Nepal if they do?

All these unanswered question is pretty fearful.

I don't think we need the King anymore, but a better leader need to emerge from the people, otherwise what is a Republic worth with King Prachanda vs King Gyanendra. King Girija, Chote Raja Shere, Makune, they have failed us, yet they and these Maoists taking all the credit for this movement makes me more pessimist than an optimist. I think the movement can't stop now, people should be able to point fingers at all the leaders of the SPAM (seven party plus maoists).

GP Koirala's demise will be a fatal blow to monarchy. There is no replacement in NC for Koirala's notoriety of being stubbornly monarchist and yet getting away with it even in the pro-republic human sea.

As a matter of fact, since pro-republic sentiments started to appear in NC an it's wings, the palace has helped GP Koirala to emerge as a singular leader by keeping him free while jailing pro-republic rivals in strategic times. This could be both reward for Koirala's undying loyalty to monarchy as well as a maneuver to empower a trustworthy ally.

In any case, it is only GP Koirala who can say NO to republic and become an unrivalled leader of all including republicans at the same time. If anybody else, even if it is one of Koiralas, tries this, he/she will probably be dragged in the street by the protesters.

So, I think, monarchy's future is depending on GP Koirala's life and stamina for this whole year.

My take:

• Maoist's decision to adopt democratic republic is not fake.
• Maoist will not disarm or dismantle their "satta" before they are sure that monarchy is history.
• "Truth and reconciliation commission" in democratic republic Nepal will deal with war crimes and abuses by the Maoists and security forces. It can not be predicted what kind of compromise and actions will be taken. However, since nobody has been clean (security forces under GP Koirala, Sher Bahadur Deuba and King's PMs and himself have committed war crimes similar to Maoist's), people will deal with it accordingly.

Here is a slightly old data (1996-2005) on the toll of war.

Among 12865 people killed during those year, 4582 (36 %) were killed by the Maoists while the security forces killed 8283 (64% ) people.

The data on non-combat killing and other abuses also shows similar trend. (NHRC's report on Emergency during Deuba's period)

In any case, when "Truth and Reconciliation Commition" brings out it's report, there are going to be a lot of parties to answer to their deeds in courts of law and in public.

simple,
clear,
direct,
honest,
informative (or provocative in ways to make you think), and
leaves room open for future back-and-forth interactions.

True, dooing all that with one's language is NOT always possible.
But one tries to do his best.

But with those criteria in mind, I try to do my best in all my Sajha postings and in my other writing. This is my way of understanding the 'truth'.

Everything I say and write always applies to me too.
It's as simple as that.

If someone DECIDES to dislike me for his or her own subjective reasons, and then
sees ALL my postings through the lens of that dislike, well then, obviously, that's
that's person's problem -- NOT mine.

But the reason I always -- almost defiantly --

use my own name,
stand behind all my postings, and
take full responsibility

is that I want to subject my own tentative or fully formed ideas to public scrutiny. I
am among the few Sajha posters who've been saying that everything they post here
is ALWAYS open to challenge, disagreements and counter-arguments.

Believe me, my personal rule for Sajha -- as in my real life -- is simple:

Have a thick skin,
a thin ego, and
an abundance of self-confidence.

Believe me, without a deliberate practice of that, I doubt whether I would have lasted more than a week here.

Nepeji, what do you feel or think about the still happenings incidences of ceasefire violation by the maoists, will it not play against them.
Will all this tangle and delay in CA formation, lack of univocal aganda among the parties in contention act in favor of sepoy rule, or any unwanted intervention.
Will the maoist accept the ceremonial king, devoid of claws, cannines and shut in a cage feed on thrown bits, or will thry go for total eradication. Will it not prolong the conflict, and will it be justful.
Hit the iron when it is hot, but again objective is to make a tool not to shread the metal.

well done; Keep on fighting, let your egos fight with each other. politics is a hot topic that everyone is talking about it.Political consciousness is rising in today's youth. I dont mind. I like reading present youth's perspective. Keep on writing. But this Same politics makes the readers very boring.

From experience, I have noticed that most Nepali friends use the English word "ego"
a lot when they have to describe people they don't like or don't understand, and then, they go on to make zero distinction between "ego" and "self-confidence".

As such, in most settings, a Nepali's display of self-confidence could easily be mistaken and misinterpreted as, well, a display of ego.

Dictionary.com makes this distinction:

EGO: An exaggerated sense of self-importance; conceit.
SELF-CONFIDENCE: belief in yourself and your abilities

Surely, we all can do with LESS of wgo, and MORE of self-confidence.
