Hi all, I work for a top Indian consultancy firm here in the U.S. Last month I went to Nepal for visa stamping. The interviewer did not ask more than 3 questions but said that my case needs more administrative processing. The slip that I was given says that the case has been currently refused under 221 (g) and will need more processing time. It's already been two weeks and the processing has not been over yet. I am tired of calling. Has anyone been on the same boat or heard of anybody in Kathmandu who faced this? I would really appreciate suggestions and responses. Thanks!

I have heard about Indians getting it cleared within 3 weeks to 6 weeks also. However, according to the US consulate in Nepal, the wait times could be from 2 months to a year (which is very scary). Did you also have to wait for a long time? Visit to Nepa has been wonderful but getting stuck here and this uncertainty about going back to the U.S is killing me. I would really appreciate everyone's responses. Thanks!

mine was little fast like 2/3 days but you dont have to worry at all if all of docs are genuine ..just chill and relax ..email the consulate or contact your employer and tell them to email the consulate in kathmandu...may be it will work out early..wish you all the best..

Thanks Neptey, I'm worried since it's already been two weeks after applying for a visa and my approved leave is also over by now.

Administrative processing takes normally 2-4 weeks. So wait and relax. You will be fine. I was stocked in Toronto last year and obtained my clearance after 23 days. I am sure you will be fine, just wait.

I had the same case as your in nov 2008. They called me after 2 weeks and when i reached there they said my case has been sent back to USCIS for possible review and revocation. I dont mean that would happen to you aswell cause thats the worst that can happen. Anyways its good to hope for the best and plan for the worst. Well its nothing from your end but its just because of the company u work for. I then quickly transferred my H1b with PP and was able to get the visa and come to US. So my suggestion is if they tell that ur case has been sent back to USCIS, dont wait a day on that case cause mine previous case status is still in RFE. U can simply think how long it can take. Go ahead and find another employer and transfer H1b. hope everything will be fine butjust wanted to show u the right path cause i was on sailing on thesame boat b4 and definitely know what the experience is like.

hey aqua2, The information what u got is completely wrong. The rule is passports which were issued after April'10 have to be MRP (Machine Readable Passport), but which were issued before that will not be a problem. Actually by 2014 all passports have to be MRP. But till 2014 it should not be a problem to carry old passport. As Nepal was not able to upgraded its passport to MRP technology they got some extension. And that's the reason they are issuing OLD passports.

That's absolutely right. There won't be a problem for ppl like us who are using the conventional/old styled passports.
