I love Nepali food, I love other cuisines too, like Chinese, Italian, American etc etc basically I love food so I enjoy trying new cuisines. But I cant eat them in a regular everyday basis. I have to have my Nepali Daal Bhaat Masu taarkari achaar everyday at least once. The most I can go with without our food is two day to the most, any longer the Daal Bhat tarkari starts talking to me, its like addiction. No food gives me pleasure to eat our Nepali Bhat, Kalo Daal, aalo kauli, Khashi ko masu, piro golbheda ko achaar with timbur, with a poach anda and ghiu jhane ko on top of the rice. I use my hands and take down the biggest gaas after gaas, eating with the hands is special. Nepali khana khada Naito thado hune gari khanu parchha. and to end the great meal, a glass of moi (remeber this drink). Thats the way to EAT.

Five yrs back I survived without Nepali food for 6 months, before that I used to eat Nepali food for dinner. During those 5 months, I ate almost everything like, Horse's meat, Dogs meat, Frog etc.Its just matter of training your body. Now I don't need to eat Nepali food. But If available, I will chose Nepali food. I can very easily survive with, Pasta, breads or Potato.Back in Nepal I used to eat dal bhat twice a day.

dash bro, thats good that you have adopted, grgdai Naito thado gari khane hoina ta???iPwN. so true Nepali food for us is just the best. well occasionaly in my family we vary within Nepali foods too, like some times we have momo, maybe sometimes sekuwa or chhoila ciura, thukpa, etc. Its keeps things interesting but we do enjoy often restaurants like the cheese cake factory, olive garden, chinese restaurant, etc and occasional pizza, burger takeout. nothing beats the feeling when you are hungry and you use your hands and gobble down daal bhaat tarkari, swaaam swwaaam swaaam. biting into a hariyo khursani.

I cannot say how long. But talking about what happened, I had survived for one month without eating Nepali daal, bhaat, tarkari when I was in China. Believe me I was weeping then eating Chinese cuisines. Most interestingly, I'm a vegan and I managed to have lots of veg stuffs over there. I must admit that I've been lucky that I'm eating Nepali food from the day I entered Amrika :)

I can go about a month without eating Nepali food. I think I can't go a week without eating spicy food though, so I make my own dish to ease that craving: 1 pack flamin-hot cheetoes 1/4 cup red onion finely chopped 1/2 tsp minced garlic 1 tsp lime juice 1/2 chopped cucumber This is my own version of channa chatpatte and it works out very well.

power_ranger thanks for your concern. Nepali food, daal bhat tarkari cooked from scratch is the most healthy form of meal in my knowledge, beats pizza burger restaurant foods etc by a far score in terms of nutrition, Salad however is healthy but depends on the dressing but still I dont like salad too much. I dont claim Im very extraordinarily healthy but Im healthy enough and in good shape. I do work out, lift weights, run etc too. But I get all my daily nutrition from daal bhat tarkari.

Maddog,
Dal bhat is good. I'm only requesting you not to eat a lot. A lot of bhat every day is not good. You'll get fat. You may be young but you'll eventually find out.

you can buy gundruk and tama at a chinese grocery store, super 88, Hmart or any oriental stores, gundruk comes in a small pack about $2 or less, its called dried mustard leaves. and bottled bamboo shoots for tama. you can also buy bhatmaas, timboor etc.

thanks bro will keep that in mind. No problem so far for me and millions of Nepali do that everyday in Nepal and yet Nepalese people dont suffer from obesity, but its a different story here in the US, you are right the environment is better but I do work out daily to make it up and dont have plans to stop. Its just i love Nepali food too much

Maddy, It seems you recovered your lost password. This nick is way better than what you had few days earlier. I knew that tama is available in chinese market but didn't know about gundruk. Next time I'll try their gundruk as well. Thnks for letting know.
