Dear Sajhaities,

I hope here are some mathmatician.
One of my friends asked me one question that it is true:

2+2 = 22

Could someone explain me how is it true?

Also she said that it may be in binary or other numbering system.

perhaps it is a simple matter of visual mathematics

1+1=11
2+2=22
3+3=33
4+4=44

i think you get the point.....

even in binary: 0010 = 2
+ 0010 = 2
---------
0100 = 4

not sure how your friend does it. She might have some other method. Like to see that. But should make sense though. There is no such thing called "fuzzy math".

guys u can get 2+2 is 22 if u dont typecast the values provided in VB textboxes.
VB Programmer understand what I mean.

i do not know about math but its about the mgmt theory.

Synegy: defined as 1 + 1 = 11

HERE IS FUNNY ANSWER

0010 = 2

0010 0010 == 22( in binary )

2+2=22

Hi Freek
you are wrong
even in binary 10110 = 22

0000=0
0001=1
0010=2
0011=3
0100=4
0101=5
0110=6
0111=7
1000=8
1001=9
1010=10
1011=11
1100=12
1101=13
1110=14
1111=15
10000=16
10001=17
10010=18
10011=19
10100=20
10101=21
10110=22

Problem : 2+2 = 22
Liberty : Solve by binary or other numbering system.

Taking advantage of "any other numbering system" defined in the query,I proceed as

There are numerous system except binary. we can as well define a system ... a coding system and can prove this.

I have come across 2 ways of solving this problem.
1.
2 in binary = 00010
so 00010
+ 00010
----------------
10110 ( which is 22)
Considering a coding scheme in which 0 + 0 = 0 or 1 (which toggles each time) and 1 + 1 = 1 or 0 ( which toggles each time)
2.
Anyone with some knowledge of binary system may well know Gray codes.( that goes like 0, 1 , 11 , 10 , 110. toggling)
Lets define new gray code - name it kiwigray code.. where instead of starting from 0, 1 , 11, 10.. we start the code with
00000 as 0
00100 as 1
00110 as 2
00010 as 3..

proceding this way we can end up having 01100 as 22.

thus 00100(2) + 00100 (2) = 01100 (22)

QED
:) cheers!

tYPO
thus 00110(2) + 00110 (2) = 01100 (22) ( AS DEFINED ABOVE)

QED
:) cheers

Maannn, m confussed

Actually, i dont hav much ideas 'bout binary. i guess thatz the reason.

Anywayz, From_kiwiland, u the MAN. (genious)

i gues from ur solution, itz true that 2+2= 22

Mr. Genious

Prove: (-1) = (+1)

Waitin for.........................

hahaha, ram ram ram ..this is sooo easy..read carefully what she said, "lso she said that it may be in binary or other numbering system", sooo dude, make up ur own numbering system..maybe its base 18 numbering system ..

2+2 =22

so in base 18 number system second 2 remains two whereas the first two is, how 18 time s 1 is 18 plus 2 is 20...

so its 22..get it :)

2+(18^1)+ 2+(18^0) = 22

easy as that..:)

IGNORE THE ABOVE POST I WAS WRONG !

haha this is easierrr.....than i imagined..its on Base 10 numbering system..ITSELFFF!!!! dont even need to touch BINARY :)

2(10^1)+ 2(10^0) = 22 get it ppl :)

P.S
dammn aint i stupid..by the way in base 18 numbering system it wud have been 38 not 22 :)

How about solving it in unary and not in binary? In binary system, each BIT can either be 0 or 1. But imagine a number system where each UIT can have only one value, say 2. So the number sequence goes like this: nothing=0, 2=1, 22=2, 222=3, 2222=4, 22222=5, and so on. So it's apparant that 2+2=22.

Prove: (-1) = (+1)

no way,

absolute value of -1 is 1

and absolute value of postive 1 is 1 ..

.that is how its equal.

Confused, hamilai pani confused garidine bhanya?

It won't work on base 18 or base 10. While focusing on the left hand side of the equation (2+2) how can you multiply the term by the bases? The only multiplication you are allowed to is by the base to the power 0, which is 1. The multiplication you are doing is applicable on R.H.S of the equation.

***************************************

Lets see which base system this can hold true.

We need,
2+2=22

Left hand side is clearly 4. We now have to find out the number system (base) whose '4' equivalent is '22.'

Or 2*X^1 + 2*X^0 = (4) .......4 not represented in the base system right now.
Or 2*X + 2 = 4
Or 2X = 2
or X=1
So the base is 1. This is impossible as we cannot use the number '2' in base '1' system.

Therefore, equation 2+2=22 can not be true in any number system.

Com'on guys!
I have given 2 solutions for the problem... u guys still discussing the same thing.

I dont know if u guys understood the solution.

And by the way.. 2+2 = 22 ..doesn't work in any base.. so no point in trying out bases.
It can only be done if u have a coding system which codes such that binary value of 2 + 2 as 22.
by the way- freek..its 2 + 2 =22 .. its not that 2 2 =22
- for confused - if it would be in base 10 ( which is used in everyday life).. nobody have raised the query.... its 2 2 = 22 in base 10 considering these are two bits... but here the problem is 2+2 = 22....

Gaalabian Algebra

It's based on trianary system (0, 1, 2)

Let me explain with an example....

Let's divide the Nepalese society into three classes. When a couple get married, the person in the lower rank will take the status of higher class as well (suerely, mahila-purush barabri theory lagu hunchha) . That would mean,

Middle-Class + Upper-Class = Upper-Class Upper-Class
Middle-Class + Middle-Class = Middle-Class Middle-Class
Upper-Class + Working Class = Upper-Class Upper-Class

Let's represent Working Class, Middle Class and Upper Class as 0, 1, 2

The Gaalabian Algebra will, thus, give the following result
0 + 0 = 00
0 + 1 = 11
0 + 2 = 22
1 + 0 = 11
1 + 1 = 11
1 + 2 = 22
2 + 0 = 22
2 + 1 = 22
2 + 2 = 22
