i am totally delighted with an idea ganapati has come forward. our flag looks like a piece of paper with patern for kids to play in some infant school. we must change it.

As I have heard, our flag was combination of Chandrabanshi and Suryabanshi flags. is that true?

Desh ko bijog bhai ra bela jhanda ko k kura garne. Country and flag are inseparable from eachother. That flag knows how much pain her country's enduring. When her other half is suffering how can this flag flutter and fly in joy. That flag is not just piece of cloth. It has that sense of pride being a Nepali which I saw few highly educated ppl have been missing in this thread. Whenver I have an opportunity to carry that flag my heart swells out of joy and pride of beloning to it and it adds cherry on the top when people come and say" wow! your flag is really nice and diffrent than others, Very unique! IMO, we don't need to change anything about this flag. Let it remain hamro ekta ko pratik.

aight whoever says that our flag does not have any meaning to it or that it does not have history to it, you really got some issues dude. don't you know that nepal being a religious country has got the shape of its national flag from it. also , the red color and the sun  denotes the courage and determination of all the nepali people who never look back or step down in hard times, thats us "bir Gorkhali" and the blue color with moon and half sun denotes the compassionate feelings we have for our people and to the world. i am not that good at explaining things but i guess it does give some idea about how great our flag is. if some of you morons don't see any history or meaning attached to our flag, thats pathetic..............................

dear all,
thanks for all your replies.. most of you don't seems to be understanding what I meant to say.. Dont' get me worng. I love our Jangi Nishan as much as you all do. I didn't mean to change the entire flag, but to modify it.. The Sun, the Moon, the red color and the shape remains the same.. the flag will still be the symbol of our Mountains. All i meant to say is - how about enclosing our flag (with the same shape) within a rectangle so that our flag won't get left out while all other flag is flying.. Being a proud nepali, I'm sure its not only me who feels bad when you see all other flags flying except ours own..
I'm not a aerodynamics specialist, but its a simple logic that to make a flag fly, wind needs larger surface area. Our flag's surface area is small because of its trangular shape. If we enclose it in a rectangle, the flag will get more contact with wind and it get lifted.. Seeing a flying Nepalese Flag maks all Nepalese feel proud, doesn't it??..
Give another thought again..

by the way, 'narayangadh ko mitra' I'm sure you know the difference between a flag, national pride and your dad.. i don't have to answer your question..

WHO DESIGNED NEPALESE FLAG??

This is what i heard about the origin of Nepalese Flag:
King Prithvi Narayan Shah was away from Gorkha on a Major Mission to conquer one of the Baise-Chaubise Rajya. It was a big and a Bloody war. Prithvi Narayan Shah and his army slaughtered lots of opponent's army and people. It was a proud victory for Gorkhali Army. All his army was celebrating the victory on the way back to Gorkha.
Its obvious that after such a bloody war, Prithvi Narayan Shah was all covered with blood. Even his Daura-Surwal insde his armour had stains of blood. Before he entered the terrotory of Gorkha, he changed his Surwal which was totally soaked in blood. We all know the shape of nepalese Surwal. if you don't, its very loose and baggy in the upper( hip) part and tighter as you go down towards your foot. One of his boy in his army stucked Prithvi Narayan's Surwal on his sword and start swing in the air. His country man, who saw the victory march from a distance, thought that it was a new flag Prithvi Narayan Shah created. From the next day every house in the kingdom of Gorkha copied the army boy and stuck red two-trangled flag as a celebration of their King's Victory in war.
Some other king, later on, put a white sun and a moon on the flag....and another big headed person explained what they meant..
Nepalses Flag was actually orginated from a pair of Bloody Trousers of Prithvi Narayan Shah!!!!!

The flag is unique and beautiful.

As for the shape of the flag and it not waving in the wind properly goes: It really depends on wind speed. For example for a triangular flag like ours mild to moderate wind will make it wave nicely; for a rectangular shaped flag moderate to high wind will make it wave beautifully.

CrapManDo; Not a true , but good try.

If you study history, all unification war had bloodsheds. Without it, it is impossible. You can make a good argument on it either way.

For sure, I will say the act of cutting nose and ears of Kirtipure was brutal.  Once the battle is won, the people were his citizens and had to honor them as Gorkhe.
