Was he tricked, in that case kudos to Raj Singh for successfully misleading greatest misleader of world.

Did he do it knowingly, to increase the number of fraud people in family so that collectively muscle power can be increased to sell Nepal and suck more Nepalese blood. In that case kudos to Gyanendra for finding fraud number 3 in Nepal to add to family.

Attack to Nepal Telecom to feed son-in-law

Kathmandu: Close friends and relatives have been immensely surprised to see Raj
Bahadur Singh become a businessman involved in investments worth billions of
rupees. He is son-in-law of King Gyanendra who has invested 40% in the controversial
communication company named Spice Nepal. Those who know him say that he does not
have unusually high financial resources. His father is a retired DSP who had been
jailed for 2 years for shooting an ordinary people without reason when he was posted
in Arghakhanchi. Raj Bahadur has been accused of being involved in prohibited and
illegal business during his student days in the US and having an illicit relationship
with a married woman. Not a single rupee has been registered under his name in the
taxation offices. A Russian Megaphone Company had bought Spice Nepal three years ago. Dr. Upendra Mahato, a billionaire businessman in Russia has a share in Megaphone. The Modi Group of India and the Khetan Group had also tried to run Spice Nepal but was
not allowed by the high power from the palace. Modi Group was chased away from
Nepal altogether and Khetan group denies any involvement due to threats from the
Army, who were heavily used during the whole episode. It has been said that
Mahato, known as Russian Mafia gave 40% of the share to Raj Bahadur Singh to
ensure the security of his company. 60% of the investment is of Megaphone and 40%
has been shown to be from Raj Bahadur and Ajayaraj Sumargi. It is becoming clearer that Raj Bahadur is the key person causing the close down of mobile phone service of Nepal Telecom.
Sources have stated that Spice Nepal is distributing mobile phone lines only after
August and hence the pre-paid service of the Nepal Telecom will not be started at
any condition until then. It’s clear that Janakpur cigarette factory was similary
crumbled to establish the present King’s Surya Tobacco Company. Nepal Telecom
has been paying 3 billion rupees royalty per year and has beared a loss of 1.35
billion rupees since 1st February. No one believes that the puppet Royal Commission
for Corruption Control will do anything on this issue.

Aparently there are people who care like many posters in this thread including myself. When there are crooks running the country and misusing the national resources for personal gain, don't you think you need to be concerned as well? May be this dude and his actions does not affect you directly but it will if people keep quiet and fail to identify the jackal hidden in sheep skin.

I am sure you know the difference between a jackal hidden in a sheep skin and a sheep hiding in a jackal skin. In the fist one the jackal kills the sheep eats it and uses the skin to fool other sheeps, to kill them of course. But a sheep hidden in jackal skin can only save itself from a jackal nothing more. Here the person we are talking about is the jackal hidden in the sheep skin who will not spare any available sheep when it is available for dinner (that being Nepali janta).

I watched the recording of the "last royals" and it does say that the royal jwain is a rich aristocrat with a computer science masters degree from UC.

What puzzles me is this guy getting tons of medals, may be the king likes his son-in-law for his "chartikalas" and appreciates his cunningness?? Who knows!!

Did palace plot against Indian JV in Nepal?

Kathmandu - The end of King Gyanendra’s absolute rule in Nepal has brought to light how the monarchy misused its authority to persecute a leading Indian joint venture in order to help a royal relative.

Records show that United Telecom Ltd (UTL), the first private operator to provide telephone services in Nepal in 2003, was steadily persecuted from February 2004 till the last days of the royal regime to promote the telecom venture of Raj Bahadur Singh, the king’s son-in-law.

Singh was chairman of Spice Nepal, which became the first private mobile telephone service provider in Nepal. He held 18 percent shares while Delta Trading, headed by non-resident Nepali Upendra Mahato, owned 17 percent and India’s Modi Group five percent. Visor Holding, a Kazakhstan company, owned the remaining 60 percent.

UTL is a joint venture with Indian partners Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd, Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd and Telecommunications Consultants India Ltd, and Nepali company Nepal Venture Private Ltd.

Since UTL also had permission to issue limited mobile phone connections and had a head start over Spice Nepal - which could start operations only in September 2005 - the latter first tried to stop the Indian JV by filing a case.

In February 2004, lawyer Kamal Prasad Khanal filed public interest litigation on his own, saying the government had acted illegally by allowing UTL limited mobility, since it had not defined limited mobility. Khanal is the current legal advisor of Spice Nepal.

The then Surya Bahadur Thapa government, appointed by King Gyanendra, formed several committees to define limited mobility. Under pressure from the palace, the committees went on dawdling to give Spice Nepal time to start its operations.

It took two years for a succession of panels to come up with a definition and finally, on March 24, 2006, UTL was allowed to start mobile phone services in Kathmandu Valley.

As it began an aggressive campaign with attractive incentives, a little known company, Nepal Satellite Telecom Private Ltd, filed another suit April 4, 2006, contending that by allowing UTL limited mobile connections, the government had hurt its business interests.

The chairperson of the Nepal Satellite board is the wife of Spice Nepal’s managing director Ajeya Raj Sumargi, who also holds shares in the company. While Nepal Satellite sells SIM cards for Spice Nepal, its case was fought by Khanal once again.

After the king was forced to step down in April, the case came up again May 17, and a stay order on UTL on issuing new connections was lifted.

Soon after that, Spice Nepal, probably realising the undesirability of having a royal kin on the board, reached a pact with the royal son-in-law, who sold his shares and quit as chairman.

Currently, Aidan Karibzhanov is the new chairman of Spice Nepal. ‘We hope the government will act fairly,’ Karibzhanov told a local daily.

The comment comes even as Nepal’s two main telecom unions are alleging that Singh used his royal connections to shut down the pre-paid mobile phone services of the state-owned Nepal Telecom for long periods to help Spice Nepal’s business grow and caused the nation a loss of millions.
