Dear Nepalese people around the world, My cousin brother, who is only 27 years old, is fighting for his life with end stage chronic kidney failure in Nepal. Doctors after looking at his kidney biopsy report has declared that the only option left at this point is for the kidney transplant. Dai's primary physician Dr. Sudha Khakurel from Bir hospital has referred to the doctor in India who has told that it would cost at least 700,000 indian rupees for the transplant. There is no way his family can afford that much of money for his treatment. Also, no one in his family members could be the matching donor for the kidney. Dai is now against the idea of transplant because he thinks he doesn't want some extra years of life at the cost of financial burden to his family all their life. Thus, I have set up a web-page www.helpraj.com where we can donate whatever amount we can towards his kidney transplant. I humbly request all of you to let's join the hands together to give him that hope which he seems to have lost. Together we can ! Raj Shrestha Syracuse, NY

Bideshi, et al - who have been requesting / reminding me to put on a sticky topic, here's my take on it. Once I identify something to be a sticky topic it stays dormant at the top and people stop noticing it after few days. Perhaps the new visitors to sajha will notice it, but most of the time those who will donate are regular visitors who have been visiting for at least a little while. When the thread lives on - i.e. appear on the homepage - due to actual interest shown by other visitors then there is genuine interest and people will go back in there to see if more have donated or if more info is available in order to make new decision about whether to donate. In addition, at every given time there are multiple causes that could possibly be identified as worthy causes for sticky topic, after a point the sticky topics begin to serve it's purpose less and less. That is why, I want to drive such topics according to visitor participation and ownership rather than subject it to be 'lost' under a dormant caption. I would have liked to be in charge of some of these donation campaigns but since sajha is not a non-profit org, there are tax implications to driving a donation campaign, that's why unfortunely I have to lay low on such issues. At some point when perhaps I am in the condition to quit my day job, I can possibly devote more time for this. Nevertheless, for now, if anyone comes forward to help in these causes then I fully support them to help out by putting into use the exposure provided by sajha kurakani and the enthusiasm and zeal of the participating and caring visitors.

Thankuuu San Uncle. I trust your judgement on deciding which is a genuine cause and which is not. But since you are not involved in the process, there is more urgency to have that transparency($$ is being raised under Sajha Banner). Hoping that good citizens of Sajha don't get duped by cons(as a concerned sajha member).

The updates and medical reports and moreover the moral support from all sajhaites is enough to prove that this is for a noble cause. As far as transparency is concerned, updates will be posted soon. There are few agencies who are willing to help in this process as well. BC you really are a concerned sajha member..I'm sure you are also concerned with this matter as much as other people are.

San Dai, Thank you for your explanation at last. I understand your stand, and also agree to some extent that ones the thread gets sticky on home page there will be less interest among the regular users. However, I still think that making a thread like this sticky provides easy access to people who are considering for donation. They don't have to search over pages to find the thread. And also, of course, making a thread sticky means you are supporting the cause which in turn will generate more interest among both the regular and new users. I hope you will find this thread and the cause worthy enough for your support.

To all the donors and who have supported this cause,
For the month of January, there was total donation of
$2185.94. After paying the fee of 2.9% + $0.30 /per transaction to the PayPal,
the total amount collected was $2103.53.
I have sent $2,104 in the name of Mr. Ram Krishna Shrestha
(father of Raj Kumar Shrestha) through muncha.com. It was received by him on February 05, 2008
in the amount of Rs. 131,435. The receipt of the transaction provided by muncha
is attached below. Thanks to muncha for providing the free money transfer.
For the detail breakdown of the transaction please see
below: For the month of January,
Total number of donors = 78
Total Number of Online Donors = 75
Total Number of Donors by Check = 3
Total Amount Donated by credit/debit card through PayPal =
$2065.94
Total Amount Donated by Check = $120
For monthly transaction of up to $3,000 PayPal charges 2.9%
+ $0.30/ per transaction
https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-receiving-fees-outside
So, PayPal Fees charged were:
- 2.9%
of $2065.94 = $59.91
- 75 X
$0.30 = $22.50
Total Fees Charged = $82.41
Thus, Total amount received after paying fees to PayPal =
$1,983.53 + $120 (by check) = $2103. 53
Total Amount sent by muncha.com = $2,104
Total amount received by Mr. Ram Krishna Shrestha = Rs.131,435
(at the exchange rate of $1= Rs.
62.4690)

Slipknot I understand your point of view and I would probably have felt the same way if it hadn't been for the barge of emails to admin@sajha.com by people with many worthy causes asking for their causes to be highlighted as sticky topics. If I was to truly highlight all worthy causes, there would probably be anywhere from 10 to 15 sticky topics at any given time. My decision is not based on the fact that I'm the "master of sajha", its based more on the fact that I'm a "servant of sajha", and I have to do my best to serve the sajha community at large. Instead of having to do the difficult task of deciding which is a bigger worthy cause since most of them all are worthy, I find it more of a democratic process for visitors to determine which cause is more worthy by their replies and participation rather than my sole discretion. Having said that, I don't want this thread to be diverted from the original cause that born_to_rule meant for. Kudos to born_to_rule for his initiative.

all right all right San not that i don't understand your position but threads that are for greater good like this should have special preference. You said it should be determined democratically by sajha visitor, i agree and majority of users want this and thread like this to be sticky post. Again, it's for greater community good so why not then create a sub category like you have created for other topics since you say you get tons of requests for this kind of worthy cause. (Help/Donate or something) Similar to this:
Thanks for your great work San.
