"light skinned pretty female "
This is a typical South Asian attitude. A dark-skinned girl is ugly, whereas a light-skinned girl is beautiful by default, even with pock-marks. Don't blame ya, buddy. I liked the story though.

Galt, you're the man!!

i too had similar kind of harrowing yet worth remembrance experience when once i took a train from gorakhpur to bangalore (or is it bongluru in native language hehe)... seemed like i was on the train riding along with you while i was reading your anecdote. keep it up! you're my inspiration here. :)

BTW, you went to rourkela for your engineering eh? i had gotten scholarship for the same place through indian embassy colombo plan, but later had to drop it due to my more ambitious plan i was looking to materialize...hehe..:) good to know you are in the same coterie (engineers) :)

oh i forgot to share one interesting incident.

i was on a train to bangalore and it was around sikanderabad(i hope i spelled it rightly) area...a bunch of gay (chhkka hehe) came in my compartment and started doing crazy stuffs. i was not nervous but was kinda awkward having to deal with nature's third gender under such cicumstances. people were laughing at and teasing them...then one of them approached me and asked

"abe chikne. de dus rupaye nikaal! tu bhi kya yaad rakhega"

i had no other option but to give away the amount hehe...it was interesting though....

thank god i am straight hehe

made me think of our society: A dark skinned female is ugly, no matter how pretty her features are, and a light skinned female is pretty, no matter how ugly her features are. Regarding males, it doesn't matter how ugly or handsom the person is, its how much he can earn.

loote,hahahah..they came asking for dus rupaiya..hehe.. should have asked dus rupiya instead..hahaha..i know u can do it ..heheh:"hai hai , dus rupaiya nahi hai chikne,tu dena" then she/he would have given u kiss.I know u would have liked thatt.hehehe :P

Nice John!!

I can feel the temperature of Bihar during summer in your story , it's really sultry and sticky. I had to travel once and that was it. No more!!!

How did u feel the next day, after that long sleepless night??

Keep writing!!

Galt,

>>>>>> either by prevarication or by argument.

I have noticed it a lot in our society too. It's never like "awesome", "sweet","that's great" , "you lucky", " you must have done hell of a work to get there" or "oh really!!!"

The response would be; " My cousin goes to princeton.", " you should get ride on my uncle's beamer someday", " I don't think that is a great school" or even worse "so what?"

That's the attitude we grew up with. This Miss X may be trying to be intimate with you bringing in the possible link to start conversation. It may be the inuendo that she knows what it's like being you as she has seen people like you. Accent and the expressions say more and your perception might be more accurate.

But still i don't understand why your respect for women escalated that day. For her courage to molest a "beautiful" boy?
