Prachanda has invited parties to send a delegation for talks. what a turn of events. Will the parties now go for talks with maoist or hide their tail and go to the palace? Apthero samaya ayo tini haru lai? Ke garne?? Bichara haru..... ------------------------------------------------------------- Maoist chairman calls upon opposition parties to appoint a `negotiating team? (2:20 pm) In what is seen as an indication of upcoming polarization in the Nepali politics, chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal, Prachanda, has called upon the alliance of seven opposition parties?that are protesting the Feb. 1 royal takeover?to appoint an official ?negotiating team? to hold dialogue with his party on ?all political issues.? Chairman of CPN (Maoist) Prachanda (File Photo) In a statement issued on Monday, Prachanda termed recent statements by Nepali Congress president and former premier, G P Koirala-- that he would hold dialogue with his party-- as ?very positive.? He said his party was ready to collaborate with all political parties that were against ?authoritarianism? in order to make the movement powerful and united. Prachanda said that the directives issued by his party to all its cadres not to target activists of the seven party alliance was being enforced strictly, save some ?accidents.? He called upon the parties to come forward by constituting an official `negotiation team? in order to create a massive people pressure for a democratic way out. He did not elaborate. ?A strong basis of confidence could be prepared by holding dialogue with such a negotiation team by organizing serious discussions on the whole gamut of political issues,? he added. The major Maoist demands include a round table conference, interim government, and elections to the constituent assembly to draft a new constitution. They have, however, kept mum on one of the major demands of seven party alliance for the reinstatement of the dissolved parliament. In its common agenda, the seven party alliance said it was ready to go up to (elections for the) constituent assembly as a way out to the present political impasse. They have, however, ruled out collaboration with the CPN (Maoist) unless the latter gives up violence. Interestingly, in his statement, Maoist chairman Prachanda said his party was ready to hold dialogue with anyone around the world including the United Nations in favour of what he called Nepali people?s aspirations for democracy, peace and progress. Prachanda?s statement has come at a time when Lakhdar Brahimi, special advisor to the UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan, is currently in Nepal. The UN has been saying that it is ready to make available its good offices for the peaceful resolution of the Nepal conflict provided both the parties in the conflict ask it to do so. While the Maoists have said they are ready to accept UN involvement, successive Nepali governments have rejected the offer saying that ?they are capable to resolve the issue internally.? Critics say the present government is pursuing military means to defeat the insurgents. International community, including the US, UK and India, have said military solution to the Nepal conflict is not possible. They have also suspended their ?lethal? military aid to Nepal in the aftermath of the Feb. 1 royal takeover. nepalnews.com by July 11 05

Maoists are serious, I think. Now political parties and International communities must take this opportunity to bring Maoists in mainstream politics and isolate king. I see better future of Nepal with political parties with 'tamed' maoists than with 'wild' king which can never be tamed. Let all democratic, progressive, rupubli and revolutionary forces unite and kick the king's arse.

All parties should absolutely get into the bandwagon and topple the monarch or at least make him toothless. Maoists might be dangerous to democracy but the monarchy is lot more dangerous. Either choose scary or very scary.

This is the start of brighter future of Nepal. Well wishers of Nepal, just be calm and watch we will be seeing different face of Nepal within a year from now. It's enough Ranas and Shahs, you better to prepare to leave Nepal for good. Let 25 plus millions of Nepali write their fate themselves, not by handful of you corrupt feudal. It's a universal truth that right thing has to win sooner or later. It's enough -- let us be proud Nepali. LONG LIVE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF NEPAL !!!

I would like to join the rest of my fellow people to seek democratic society and peace in the country. But I doubt those who support this cause here represent diverse group of ethnicity. If they are saying the hell with Rana, Chettri, Shah, Thapa, etc. I like to add BAHUN. After all, they too are most responsible for ruining what we had. It is natural anyone who hates Rana, Chettri are all BAHUN. Bottom line: If Rana and Chetris are not serving common folks, do you think BAHUN will serve us any better? We are a mere spectator watching a tug of war between two groups who have been fighting for last 300 yrs. It will continue for another 300 yrs as well as Nepal exists.

Gurungbrohero, Mero Nepali Bhai/Dai, I am sorry you misunderstood the phrase "Shahs and Ranas" that I used in the pervious posting. I was using the phrase to refer a certain class of people in Nepal. I have nothing to do with Rana or Shah individual or cast. It's a big pity to discriminate someone because of his cast or ethnicity. No offence to Rana and Shah individual. Its unfortunate ?Shahs and Ranas? has become synonyms of feudal in Nepali Society, I just happened to use the same.

And Kofi Anan also thinks we need his active role :) Annan's Special Advisor arrives POST REPORT, KATHMANDU, July 10 - Lakhdar Brahimi, Special Adviser to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, arrived here Sunday afternoon on a six-day visit to expedite Annan's efforts to help find a peaceful resolution to Nepal's conflict. According to a statement from the UN Information Center in Kathmandu, Brahimi will, among others, meet the king, senior government officials, leaders of political parties and a cross-section of representatives of Nepali society. Appointed as Special Adviser to Annan on January 1, 2004, Brahimi in the past has served as the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for post-Sept 11 Afghanistan. The former Algerian foreign minister has also served as under-secretary-general for special assignments in support of the secretary-general's preventive and peacemaking efforts in Afghanistan. He has also undertaken special missions on behalf of the secretary-general to a number of countries, including Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of Congo), Yemen, Liberia, Nigeria and Sudan. Annan had sent his senior political advisor, Samuel Tamrat, to Nepal last month.

Sajhabasaima, that is hilarious. By the way, how one can make that, just wondering as I am not a computer gig. I think it's wrong to compare Maoist in Nepal to Extremist Muslim who kills innocent people indiscriminately like they did in London last week. There are some accidents in case of Maoist in Nepal too but they do not advocate killing general public. Maoist is a political force even recognized by the UN, so everybody has to work to bring them in main political streams. Revolution in any countries in the world is not that far of what Maoist are doing in Nepal, who knows if they are the one who is going to change Nepal politically, socially and economically.
