Slipknot:

You can be proud when you give something back more than what you got. You can be proud when you make the place a little better than what it used to be. That's why I suggest contributing time to the community or donating what you can. Now that can make a difference if we add all up.

I have heard enough of that....proud.....similar to netas saying rights of people and blah blah blah. Look at the consequences. It sounds more like ego. No offense.

A few years ago, I was an intern in a lab. One of the Chinese post-doc asked me (once he found out I was from Nepal) "are you proud of Mt. Everest being in Nepal?" "Yes" I replied. Then he said, " why are you proud of Mt. Everest being in Nepal. The mountain literally does nothing for you. Shouldn't you be more proud of maybe minerals or other natural resources in your country?"

ugly duck - mt everest does a lot for nepal. it brings in tons of tourists. it helps promote nepal as a tourist destination even to tourists who don't hike. and it helps me explain to less geographically-conscious americans where i am from. it's a symbol of identity - the chinese have the great wall, the americans have mt rushmore, the italians have the leaning tower, the french have the eiffel tower, and we have mount everest.

Jus to give me few words too....

I am proud to be Nepalese....even though i wasnt born n raised there..my hearts still beats nepalese..n well...at the moment, yes, the countries in turmoil...damn corruption n mao'z..wat is their to be proud of re....the essense n beaut, ur heritage...bad traits in nepalis re....other countries have their own diffrnt n bad traits too....not jus neplalis in the whole world..........but that doesnt mean losing hope, pride or respect over our country....through the worst times especially, we gotta stay true n positive no matter what..if them people in nepal had lost their faith n hope then i reckon the country would have been in much worst off state than it is now...there are people who actually strive to improve n try contribute as much as they can to our motherland cz they still hav devotion n love in their hearts for their motherland...n yes, people like me are here rambling on about it n not fighting the Maoists...etc as some of u'z mentioned above..but believ me or not...i speak for myslf...my times will come wen i go to Nepal n prove my love for the country n my ramblings....donating my time to help.. contributing wat i can..then il be prouder...when ur living in different country far away it is alwys difficult to put words into action...

Enough rambling i guess...soz for the essay! Just me own collective thoughts y'all...;o)

Excuse me Touch_the_sky...

Jus coz there are nepalis who have left their country to go abroad doesnt mean they are ashamed to live there...they want to get better education, more oppurtunities, and better lifestyle ...cz Nepal cant provide that all that..we all know its a poor country n has long time yet to develop...they may hav left their motherland..but they have taken their love n pride for her abroad.

wah wah waha..topahni pheri esto hareeb dialogue hanyo hehe..
topahni*hugs* :o)

touch_the _sky just like smtimes we cant explain why we feel some kinda feelings...those ppl who lives abroad but feels proud to be a nepali..well..do they have to explain?it might seem we dun have much to be proud about being a nepali..to be from nepal..or maybe we just have too mnay things.;o)..depends which way u look at it..:o).. but the feelin of being proud cos we are nepalese...well dun ask us why..just let us feel this way..:o)..

guess being away from our homeland makes us appreciate it more..we try to look at the good traits..of being from nepal...of being nepalese..instead of those bad traits....im proud to be a nepali...for a lot of reasons..and cos i have this feeling deep inside of me..which makes me proud to be a nepali..:o)...and nothing is gonna change that...except maybe well myself..:o) till then..

jai Nepal! :o)

i am always pround to be a son of nepal. I know nepal is poor diz and that, but would you ditch your mom if that happened to her too? Even though i am here at US, i am aching to go back. No matter they call US a free country, you will always feel like an outsider. My goal is to get my engineering degree and find a good job at nepal on that field. Relationships are more important to me than $$. SO ^uck you.
