From a friend; any thoughts anyone?

------------------------------------------------------------

I was supposed to leave for Nepal on April 16 to attend my sister’s wedding on April 28. I’m due back in the US on May 14. However, I need to get a new H1 visa stamped. Now that the US consulate is closed, I’m not sure what to do. What if the consulate doesn’t open for quite a while? I thought maybe I could postpone going to Nepal by a week since my sister’s wedding is a few days away and go to Canada and get a visa. But the appointments are so far away (like 8 weeks away!). Can anyone advise what I should do? Shall I take the risk of going to Nepal and hope the consulate opens in time? The more it closes, the more people there will be for visa application and the appointment could be ages away. Its Friday today, and my flight is on Sunday. I’m not sure if I should cancel/postpone my plan; Should I just go? Should I tell my office and let them know that this has happened-if I tell them, they may ask me not to go, or they may leave it to me to decide-and if I go and I’m delayed, I might be blamed for making a bad decision. I’m pretty confused because my flight date is fast approaching (its less than 2 days away). I’m kind of freaking out, and would appreciate some good advice. I don’t really want to miss my sister’s wedding, but I don’t want to be stuck in Nepal for months or weeks (I’ve already taken a month off!). Is there anyway I can get a quick appointment in Canada? Does anyone know anything about Mexico?

If you want to be back for sure, you got to cancel your travel buddy. Or You can go to Canada and get a H1 visa and fly on a later date to Nepal.
If you don't have indefinite time to get visa in Nepal, don't rely man. Hope that everything settles in a week or two. I am planning to fly in May too, I don't know what the situation would be like in Nepal. Good luck to you, hope US embassy resumes its normal business soon.

Don't take a chance. Don't even take chance in Delhi... it's a long line there too. If you want to come back there is no option but not to leave without visa. I know, it is heartbreaking but that's another blow this autocractic gyane is inflicting to all the Nepalis no matter where they are staying...Sorry about your story but think about those who got lost their eyes, hands, foots or relatives...

i think u should stay back. Who knows when the embassy opens?? who knows the situation might even deteiorate?? dont take any chances. I know its hard for you to miss your sisters wedding, but i dont think u want to take that kind of risk. If your sister knows your situation, i'm sure she wouldnt want you to come either.

Lets just pray that our country's situation gets better and hopefull people will live and enjoy with peace.

I highly recommend you postpone your plan! If you think it is very very important (much important than u being able to come back to U.S. quickly) Plan for Plan B and see if you have plans to do things in Nepal if you are stuck there. If you don't mind being stuck there you can go anytime.

If you really don't want to miss your sister's wedding, i think you can get it stampped in Mexico. They do have visa dates available at a sooner date than Canada. But when you go to mexico, make sure you take all your documents. A couple of my desi friends were denied with their H-1 visa as they forgot to take one letter from the employer. Hence they had to go back to India. It is a lot stricter in Mexico.

But if you don't want to take any risks, then just stay in the US and send your sister a big gift with all your love. She will understand your situation
