Being honest, till today I am still confused with some English sentences... Could you people help me out? I have some questions to ask to you lovely people 1) What is the difference between these two sentences( please clarify their meaning in Nepali) If I could not get there,I will send him. If I cannot get there,I will send him. 2) What does the following sentence mean? (please clarify its meaning in Nepali) I had always thought that all my friends I would see on the streets were her friends too. 3) What are the rules to use 'could' and 'would' in english sentence? HOw 'could' differ from 'can' and 'would' differ from 'will'?

ल्वाम ल्वाम-जी, मेरो प्रयाश हेर्नुस, तर विश्वाश नगर्नुस। १: उत्तर: If I could not get there,I will send him. (यदि म त्यहाँ पुग्न नसक्दो भएँ भने मैले उसलाई पठाउने छु) If I cannot get there,I will send him. (यदि म त्यहाँ पुग्न सक्दिन भने मैले उसलाई पठाउने छु) शारांस: दुबै वाक्यले उही अर्थ / शुद्धता दिन्छ, तर पहिलो वाक्यमा बढी मीठास दिन्छ। जुन कुरा नेपालीमा पनि उत्तिकै लागू हुन्छ। २: उत्तर: I had always thought that all my friends I would see on the streets were her friends too. जस्तै: I can do it. ( म यो गर्न सक्छु।)------------- I could do it. (म यो गर्न सक्दो हुँ।) I will do it. ( म यो गर्ने छु)------------- I would do it. (म यो गर्दो हुँ।) LOL !!!!!! कोही भाषा विशेषज्ञ आएर मलाई लात हान्नु अगि म यहाँ बाट बेपत्ता भए राम्रो हुँदो हो। :-) -भउते

If I could not get there,I will send him.( यो वाक्य व्याकरण अनुसार औपचारिक वाक्यमा गलत छ । if क्लजमा could भनेर राखेपछि अर्को क्लजमा will को सट्टा would लेख्नु पर्थ्यो । तर पनि तलको वाक्यको भन्दा यसो अर्थ फरक छ । यस्को अर्थ हो ' म त्यहाँ पुग्न सकेन्छु भने , मैले उसलाई पठाउँला' । यो वाक्यमा काल्पनिकताको वा अयथार्तताको मात्रा बढी छ अथवा काम हुने नहुने कुरमा वक्ताको विचारमा निश्चितता छैन ) If I cannot get there,I will send him. 2) What does the following sentence mean? (please clarify its meaning in Nepali) I had always thought that all my friends I would see on the streets were her friends too. सडकमा देखिने सबैजसो मेरा साथीहरू उनका पनि साथी हुन भनेर मैले सदैव सोचेको थिएँ। ( अरू पनि विकल्प हुन सक्छन ) 3) What are the rules to use 'could' and 'would' in english sentence? HOw 'could' differ from 'can' and 'would' differ from 'will'? यस्को सविस्तार चर्चाका लागि अहिले समयाभाव भएकाले क्षमा चाहन्छु । फेरि कुनै बेलामा भनौँला ।

corrigendum: ( माथिको कुरामा अलिक शुद्दता थपेको ) I had always thought that all my friends I would see on the streets were her friends too. मेरा सबैजसो मित्रहरू जसलाई मैले सडकमा देखूँला , तिनीहरू उनका पनि साथी होलान भनेर मेले सदैव सोचेको थिएँ । अथवा मैले सधैँ सोचेको थिएँ कि ती सबै मेरा साथीहरू जसलाई म बाटोमा भेटूँला ती उनका पनि साथीहरू होलान ।

Could you pls show me the way to Baglung? Can you pls show me the way to Baglung? Gramatically, i think both of the above would be correct but no doubt, second one sounds quite odd. The first one is more in use, i think. Thyakkai karan ta tha bhayena , tai pani first one sounds better than the second one. Me failed in English??? That is unpossible

The way you guys presented the explanation of the usage of CAN/COULD or WILL/WOULD on this bulletin board by describing tenses whatever are intended more in instructional written English, but I would rather use my intuition as a simple strategy and it works pretty well grammatically in speaking and writing English. Use "CAN" word if you think you are capable or able for the action otherwise use "COULD" word if think you are not sure of your ability for such action. Example 1: Usages of "CAN" and "COULD" Case 1. If you think you are capable of driving a car, just say I "CAN" drive a car. Case 2. If you think you are not sure of your ability for driving a car but you have potential to drive a car, just say you "COULD" drive a car. Similarly, use "WILL" word if you think you are certain for the action otherwise use "WOULD" word if you are not sure you are certain. Example 2: Usages of "WILL" and "WOULD" Case 3. If you think you are certain to drive a car, just say I "WILL"l drive a car. Case 4. If you think you are not certain for driving a car but there is a possibility, just say you "COULD" drive car. The bottom line is use "CAN" for ability and "WILL" for certainty and "COULD" and "WOULD" for potentiality and possibility respectively. By the way, it works for me most of the time. Still, I would appreciate for feedbacks and positive comments if there were other easier ways to understand and learn the uses of these simple auxiliary verbs. I Think So
