Just checked the DMV's website. According to this document, you'd need this:
♦ Passport,
♦ Visa* or Immigration documentation indicating this status,
♦ I -94, and
♦ Form I-20.
I'd think the I-94 and I-20 would prove your F-1 status, ask the person to talk to his/her supervisor if you get hassled and explain your situation.

? I'd think the I-94 and I-20 would prove your F-1 status. If I-20 will not prove the F-1 status then which one will proved it that, you are a legal immigrant here in USA. Lol "?" I -20 is the only legal paper which will shows your status here in USA as an F-1 student. With the help of valid I-20 you can travel Canada And Mexico. You don't need a valid visa to travel there. So my concern is if u don't know anything then, please don't share all these stupid things over here in Shaja. @ uyarihc which DMV office you tried ? If you try one in Irving then try another one in Arlington, Richland Hills or in lewisville. I love to go to the one at Arlington. Very cool people over there. Good luck :)

@Champ, I went to the one in Lewisville-the clerks there suck!! pretty much women on thier menopause just waiitng to make people miserable. I also tried the one in Carrolton-same results. None of these DPSs even wanted to listen to what i had to say. All they told me was that they needed the original VISA to process my renewal any further.
Talked to my school, they suggested I go to a DPS of a smaller city. I'll be trying Sulphur Spring this monday and maybe i'll go to Arlington as well.
Thank you all for your suggestions!

it's weird, they're asking all those things..
Here in California, I get on the line at local DMV office, handover my old ID, they give temporary paper equivalent to Driver Licence just in case you are pulled over, head back to home. After several months(NOW), they mail it to you.
If possible, try to get there with one of your WHITE friends if you have to explain the things correctly.

Why you wanna drive all the way to sulphur springs. Just go to the one at Arlington, it's gonna be so easy for you. If not just ask your DSO to write a letter for DMV office explaining your situation. That's bull shit stupid Mexican woman from Lewisville.
