Some musings.

Okay if Trafalgar had taken place, the brits would not have won because ......See the updated dialogue between Nelson & Hardy in "today's Trafalgar", below:

**********************
Nelson: Order the signal Hardy.

Hardy: Aye, aye sir.

Nelson: Hold on, that's not what I dictated to the signal officer. What's the meaning of this?

Hardy: Sorry sir?

Nelson: (reading aloud) What gobbledygook is this? "England expects every person to do his/her duty, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religious persuasion or disability"

Hardy: Admiralty policy, I'm afraid sir. We're an equal opportunities employer now. We had the devils own job getting 'England' past the censors, lest it be considered racist.

Nelson: Gadzooks, Hardy. Hand me my pipe and tobacco.

Hardy: Sorry sir. All naval vessels have been designated smoke-free working environments.

Nelson: In that case, break open the rum ration. Let us splice the main brace to steel the men before battle.

Hardy: The rum ration has been abolished. Admiral. Its part of the Government's policy on binge drinking.

Nelson: Good heavens, Hardy. I suppose we'd better get on with it. Full speed ahead.

Hardy: I think you will find that there is a 4 knot speed limit in this stretch of water.

Nelson: Damn it man! We are on the eve of the greatest sea battle in history. We must advance with all dispatch. Report from the crows nest, please.

Hardy: That won't be possible, sir.

Nelson: What?

Hardy: Health and safety have closed the crows nest, sir. No handrail, and they said the rope ladder doesn't meet regulations. They won't let anyone up there until proper scaffolding can be erected.

Nelson: Then get me the ships carpenter without delay, Hardy.

Hardy: He's busy knocking up a wheelchair access to the fo'c'sle Admiral.

Nelson: Wheelchair access? I never heard of anything so absurd.

Hardy: Health and safety again sir. We have to provide a barrier free environment for the differently abled.

Nelson: Differently abled? I've only one arm and one eye and I refuse even to hear mention of the word. I didn't rise to the rank of Admiral by playing the disability card.

Hardy: Actually you did sir. The Royal Navy is under-represented in the areas of visual impairment and limb deficiency.

Nelson: Whatever next? Give me full sail. The salt spray beckons.

Hardy: A couple of problems there too, sir. Health and safety won't let the crew up the rigging without crash helmets. And they don't want anyone breathing in too much salt - haven't you seen the adverts?

Nelson: I've never heard of such infamy. Break out the cannon and tell the men to stand by to engage the enemy.

Hardy: The men are a bit worried about shooting at anyone, Admiral.

Nelson: What? This is mutiny.

Hardy: It's not that sir. It's just that they're afraid of being charged with murder if they actually kill anyone there's a couple of legal aid lawyers on board, watching everyone like hawks.

Nelson: Then how are we to sink the Frenchies and the Spanish?

Hardy: Actually sir, we're not.

Nelson: We're not?

Hardy: No sir. The Frenchies and the Spanish are our European partners now. According to the Common Fisheries Policy, we shouldn't even be in this stretch of water. We could get hit with a claim for compensation.

Nelson: But you must hate a Frenchman as you hate the devil?

Hardy: I wouldn't let the ships diversity coordinator hear you saying that sir. You'll be up on disciplinary.

Nelson: You must consider every man and enemy who speaks ill of your King.

Hardy: Not any more, sir. We must be inclusive in this multicultural age. Now put on your Kevlar vest; it's the rules.

Nelson: Don't tell me - health and safety. Whatever happened to rum, sodomy and the lash?

Hardy: As I explained sir. Rum is off the menu! And there's a ban on corporal punishment.

Nelson: What about Sodomy?

Hardy: I believe its still allowed, sir.

Nelson: In that case - "kiss me Hardy"!

**** The End ******

Stop Press:

Rydal Mount is actually Wordworth's place as opposed to Ruskin's.

Brentwood is the Ruskin abode.

My memory is failing me here but six years is a long time and one tends to forget things.

Take care.

Commandant,

You are as quick as lightning today..I trust, work isn't as hectic as you had anticipated.

If I get thrown out of law school I'll have you to thank for it !!:-)..there I am, reading posts during yet another tedious session of class when I let out an audible yelp at the mention of "pristine" er...nature, shall we say, under kilts!!..as for the daura/suruwal, I would venture to say that the monarch would not be too thrilled at the prospect of having you, Knight of the empire, in "Brown Folk's" clothing :-)

The metion of poets and the Lake country juxtaposed with you and your knighthood..kilt et all, put an image in my head that woun't be easy to get out; think, Young Lochinvar (I think Sir Walter Scott would be proud :-))

Now for me..fiesty, undomesticated and wild eh?....maybe it's just me, but I think life has a lot more colour with those qualities in one than it would as a quite, coy, homebound lass...one more to the list..irreverent! :-)

Till later, Sir Sandhurst, I bid thee adieu (while I continue to chuckle at the image of you as Lochinvar!!)

Commandant,

Please pardon the profusion of spelling errors in the previous post, I must have been rather tired when I wrote that.

I presume work has you busy..yet again..or perhaps a most becoming solitary highland lass?

Anon,

As always, it's a pleasure "seeing" you. Where in this wide sansar had you dissappeared to? since when did you start becomming a follower of both Houdini and Sandhurst? :-)

I thought you might have gone to Bondi to meet all those taruni's there..ke ho? You seem to be rather good at the dissappearing act yourself.

As far as the spelling errors are concerned, grrr..ke ho?..excuses/motives re?...I don't need to make excuses..I haven't had time to check in on Sajha for the past week..been busy navigating the road and horrid weather conditions from L.A to Seattle.

I hope all is well with you and your Bondi Beach taruni's :-)...your keyboard must be in shock, that was probably the shortest post from you and that too without much of that very loved Anon lexicon :-)

Anon,

It's always a pleasure to see you and read your hysterical posts...even if the above is at my expense :-)

First of all i.e the "fish" business...it's not at all fishy ke..I just didn't have time to get to it earlier because I was in L.A, San Franciso and then en route to Seattle..so..no fish business there...I don't even like fish to begin with! :-)

Now for the Taruni's in Bondi..I'm just pulling your leg..I don't swing that way...it's fun poking fun at others i.e. you :-)

Me sleepless re?..not at all..I tend to sleep rather soundly thank you...so, I hate to dash all your theories and assumptions but...there it is!

As for the missing commandant..I have no idea where Lochinvar dissappeared so you shall have to enquire when or rather if he re-appears.

I hope all is well with you down Aus territory.

So, the 'young Lochinvar is come out of the west' at long last!

***************
Anon,
I think, this post has been long time coming - spent loads of time putting my non-sense drivel on hold and about time, I hobbled back to my Sajha cubby hole - where else - to hurl at you my usual dose of carping and whingeing! I'd been so very extremely busy these last few weeks - appeared to have burned the candle on both ends, and I could surely do well with some company with you two. Hey, thanks for carrying on the 'talk' in my absence! I did have a wee peek once or twice before though.

I trust that all is well with you, Anon, and the balmy climes Down Under do still bring with it plenty of excuses for you to make a trip down to the Bondi beach, and undeniably oodles of fun. By default! Busy restraining the smouldering embers of passion you appear to hold for the BBBs, no? Bondi Beach Blondes! :-) Your Bondi saga reminded me of my own trip to one of the beaches along the south English coast that I had made many moons ago. Not a particularly beach going person, but this time, I was to make an exception as on a few occasions before, purely out of my friend's unrelenting coxing and cajolling. Llittle did I know, alas, that the trip was to end prematurely, much to my disappointment. The place was absolutely jam-packed with swarm of summer sunbathers. Part of the reason why our venture met with such a complete and utter disaster - for me at least. More to do with this was the gorgeous taruni who came and sat beside our tent. You won't believe me but the smell that was coming from her direction was just horrendous - I just can't stand body odour! And your beach kit won't include air-freshner, would it? :-) So, the books and the picnic box went straight into the bag and tent collasped, off we headed off to the ice cream kiosks and eventually towards the cliff top in search of a quite spot. Half an hour was enough for the overly sensitive olfactory nerves! Hey, that's why I have those air-freshner cans, firmly put away at one corner of my car boot. And a few Mayaloo sabuns too! Why? Because I want to give those sabuns to the kakhi-smelling taruni as a good will gesture, in case I bumped into her ke! So she can go and have a shower! :-)

Enough woffle. I hope life in Queensland continues happily as always, Anon. What Larry? Typhoon? You do get a fair bit of typhoons/tsunami and what not in your part of the sansaar, don't you? Blimey. I remember my typhoon days in Hong Kong in the mid nineties - once some bizzarely named typhoon swept through the territory and left in its path large swathes of destruction. Buildings flattened to ground, trees uprooted and the roads blocked with large tree trunks splintered into halves littering the tarmac. A complete mess. You weren't hit hard by the Tsunami, isn't it? Nature's formidable force eh! Some of our blokes were holidaying in Phuket and other parts of Thailand when the wave struck but luckily, they were spared with their lives. Others weren't so lucky - how very sad.

Hey take care Anon. Have got to say hello to the other 'fellow nepaali' now!

*********
Hi 'not so sleepless someone in Seatle' - look at the S sound! Now who said, I had a better chance of being a rocket scientist than a poet eh?? :-)

So, Lochinbar is back, isn't he? With his woffling antics intact! Blimey. Was busy wooing the 'fair Elain'! And playing footsie too. :-) Cheeky git! :-)

How have you been? I trust that the California trip was a pleasant one and that hovoc-wreaking en route was fun, whatever it entailed. You must be awefully busy with your studies.

Busy past weeks for me as you can imagine.. Extremely. Datelines to meet, parties to attend (there were four!). Have got one this afternoon as well. Phew. Then there was this charity thing I did. Did a marathon length race carrying weight. That was tough but luckily nothing untoward happened to my khuttas - the toes were spared the wrath of those sinister, beastly blisters. Will also be doing orienteering this week. Have got to burn off the extra bits I must have put on following these dos. More work there surely.

I will sign off for now - time for a cuppa. Take care, madam.

Here is one for the Scott road, then:

"So daring in love and so dauntless in war,
Have ye e’er heard of gallant like young Lochinvar?"

:-)

Anon,
A thousand apologies..I had no idea there was a response pending that I really should have gotten to sooner. I haven't been on Sajha threads much of late..other than screaming my lungs out at the ongoing immigration debates in the U.S on both Sajha and Samudaya, I'm terribly sorry for the oversight on my part; nevertheless, I hope all is well with you down in Aus territory. Now that the games are over, I imagine you have some additional spare time on hand...more time to make merry! :-)

Commandant,
Quite a missing act that was..you'd give Poor Blaine a run for his money!...too much of something is never a good thing- that holds true for the endless footsie playing sessions too you know :-)

Ah the foray into California. Hectic like none other but still managed to have a very good time with my sister and her friend in San Francicso--and yes, there was quite a bit of havoc wrecking to be had--with a trio of single women out on the town, trouble can't be far behind now can it? :-)

The months ahead are going to be busy ones. I am heading into the final exam stretch ..yet again..the agony of it all !!...I have what is supposed to be a three month break from school but will be working with a law firm in Seattle the entire time; therfore, no real break as such. I plan to try and squeeze in a short jaunt to Munich somewhere in there....so..looks like I may need a lesson or two in juggling!

As for Lochinvar--he was the knight in shining armour that all the ladies waited for...only, looks like mine got felled in battle or a duel perhaps...I shall never know but that certainly explains the fozzilised love life :-) :-)

Dear madam,

Yes still busy perfecting the act of missing (I didn't say playing footsie there, did I? :-)), the Blaine way! Oh yes, yours truly looks set to scare the living daylights out of the poor ol' Blaine! Too much is indeed bad - chini pani guliyo hunchha as they say in nepali! :-) But hey, too much woffling in Sajha is also bad, you know - one of his reasons for keeping away but believe me, no-so-sleepless-someone-in-S'Tle has been in his thoughts. Always.

Good to hear that the foray materialised as per the plan. Trio of single women eh! Charlie's Angels or what? :-)

Good luck with the exams? I am sure, prep must be putting so much strain on you, and especially with you having to put up with my non-sense woffle, the task must be doubly hard. I might do another of those Blaine's disapearing acts, no? Good luck.

Jaunt to Munich? To the place or the film? If it is the latter, your jaunt must be duly rewarded - Spielberg won't let you down; I have always been in awe of his cinematic genius, sure a gem of a director.

Oh, the 'felled' Lochinbar! Can someone get a magic potion? Baapiti-bupiti-boo, ping! Lochinbar, back to life, breathing fire as he's always done! Pray do not liken yourself all too soon to Tennyson's poor 'Lady of Shalott', madam!

:-)
I might shoot off for now. Till the morrow, I bid thee adieu!

You flatter me Commandant :-)...in his thoughts indeed!..rather sure there must be other more pleasing notions that want to be entertained! :-)

Ah the rigours of exam prep. I start the madness on May 1st so I have just under a month to get ready but hopefully, things will go smoothly..as for your dissappearing and supposed non-sense woffle, you playing coy now?..I enjoy..well...practically devour your posts, as you are well aware :-)

The jaunt is to the Fatherland--Brost, Beer Gardens and the sight of Germans surfing the single wave in the English Garden should be just the antidote to post exams, post summer work stress.
I did watch Munich and came away satisfied but with the belief that it wasn't everything it was hyped to be. (I think Mrs. Henderson Presents was likely the least marketed; yet, most brilliant of the Oscar offerings)

So..you certainly seem to be living up to the image of Knight in Shining armour...what with running marathons with weights attached et all..I thought marathons were arduous enough without having to worry about falling limbs in the process!!

Till later Commandant, Adieu.

Pleasing notions eh - there may be more of those. Latent ones rather - your place to uncover them perhaps! :-) Morning madam.

Only a month left for exam prep then. Pressure, pressure but hopefully all will be okay. I know, you'll pass them with flying colours but time is surely of the essence. So, I'd better not nag you any more, at least not until you're through with the beast. My best wishes.

As for your practically devouring my posts, I know you do but can I also say, I do ditto to yours? I'll try and look you up in Samudaya! I don't visit the site as much as I do Sajha - they always have some lively debates going on there though.

Jaunt to Germany. Excellent. Why not take a detour to London but I suppose the idea is not appealing to you now that you'll be relocating to the place temporarily some time next year. Good luck with the trip. I have been to a few places in Germany and have to say that the Germans are friendly people on the whole. I have yet to see the film - must be good as is customary of all Spielberg films.

Knight in shining armour? Well I don't know but I do have a weird looking 'unshining' body armour that I've got to put on now and then! :-)

Busy day ahead. Have a good day.

Morning Sire,

My place to uncover them you say?...well..we shall have to see about that :-)

Yes, exam prep in full swing but being in the second year is the onset of what is loving referred to as "senioritis" i.e lack of any and all motivation to put in those long hours that one was compelled to in the first year of law school. The first year is the worst; the standard form of infliction of terror happens at orientation. They have you look to the right of you and to the left of you and then say "in another year, two of you will no longer be here"!!..the drop out rates at the end of the first year are alarming; consequently, if you manage to hang on long enough to actually finish the second year...it's all over...no more pressure, well, not to the extent of the first year anyway.

About the temporary relocation---the expense is alarming. I knew the cost of living had risen sky high but when I did the calculations, I almost blacked out!! I'm having to re-think the temporary move to stave off having to take out another tremendous loan but, I'm also trying to get creative with finances--essentially contacting friends in London and badgering them to let me stay with them for the six months!!

I doubt I'll be back to these parts much as the weeks wear on so perhaps e-mails may be in the offing :-) As to the Knight in not so shiny uniform...I know you are all too aware about what they say about men in uniform!! :-)

Morning madam,
Yeah, your place to unearth them! Why not! :-)

Delighted to know that your scary 'looking-to-the-right and looking-to-the-left' days are coming to a swift close in not too distant future. Pse do keep up the hard work - the toil should hopefully less painful than expected.

I know, London is awfully expensive but hope that you'll revisit the options on hand, and that the plan materialises eventually. Because it will be good to look out for the better known thespians somewhere in the nooks of the West End proper. That'll be grand indeed.

Yes the lore about the uniform and its countless gory details! I'll leave it to your imagination for now but hope the charmed garb and its owner will both be ironed spick and span, all straightened up and ready by the time you set foot in this part of the sansaar. Let's hope you will.

Me, busy negotiating the cross country this afternoon - thick vegetations, the thorny shrubs, pits, depressions, steeply crooked contours and what have you - we call it orienteering! The mausam is gleaming - the air is a little nippy though.
Take care.

Where art thou, Anon? MIA eh! :-)

Commandant,

Morning to you Sire. Orienteering eh? Sounds arduous to me. Do they have you run/walk/hike these places with packs strapped on back as well? Is this officer training of some sort or another charity mission? Hopefully the weather will hold. Having to do these exercises can't be fun to begin with, bad weather would only make it all the more wretched!

Ah London, believe me, I am trying everything I can to be there. It's a brilliant program and the main attraction is the city itself but also the fact that I have the option of working with a Barrister whilst there. The opportunity to live and work there at the moment is much too grand a prospect to pass on. Massive negotiating in the horizon
with my firm here (trying to have them consent to my leaving work for 6 months and leaving the position open for me when I return). Yes, the plays in the West End will be grand...the "watering holes" would be just as super but I know you are on this well guarded Tapasya :-)

Hope the mausam holds for the day. Good day Commandant.

Anon,
Timi kaha bepatta? Afu haruncha and Feri malai "fish business" bhancha :-). I hope all is well..you've been missing for a while now, but, hope you and your wit visit soon enough.

About Anon - yes kahan bepatta bhayo? Busy playing peek-a-boo perhaps with his battalion of warthogs, wallabies and congaroos somewhere in the Ausie outback! Hope he shows up soon.

Morning again!
Had a gleaming time yesterday - the mausam held superbly. Orienteering is one of the very popular forms of sports activities in my part of the world - it's basically land navigation in a simpler term, which demands a degree of physical stamina and skills on the part of the participant. The races take place almost every week in different venues here in England - you just have to turn up there, get yourself registered, then off you go. You get issued with a map with 'controls' marked on it, a compass and an tiny electronic device which keeps a tab on your timing/scores from one control to another, all the through to the finishing point. You can run, jog or walk whatever appeals to you, and have normally an hour within which to finish the course, in its entirety or in part. Oh, no weight by the way, so no pressure. Your effort will be to get as many controls as you can, as these carry points which however vary depending upon the nature of the terrain feature, the 'control' is placed with. The harder/farther the control, the greater the point it carries. So, the more controls you can get then, the more points you will have acquired obviously. Orienteering is not military training per se but there are clearly advantages to be had in relation to what we do in a field scenario. The atmosphere is really fascinating - you get to meet all sorts of people, from all walks of life and the age group is quite diverse. No, it was not a charity event yesterday; the course was set in a fairly easy terrain - no high hills or rivers, no waterlogged valleys. So, the heels don't hurt - they were much worse for wear post the charity marathon which I did the other week. Hey how fit are you? Fancy giving it a go? :-) It will be good, particularly if you were an 'outdoor' type!

I hope, your London plan will be sorted soon. Working with a barrister? Gleaming. Have met a few barristers and QCs, and I have to say that they're the cleverest bunch of people and ones I wouldn't want to pick a 'verbal' fight with! :-) Yes, my tapasya and the watering holes don't go hand in hand, do they? The last time I went clubbing with my mates was way back when - 2001? A few moons ago! The ones near Leicester Square are apparently good. Not a clubbing type - my lungs just can't take in the amount of smoke there, and the clothes smell awful afterwards. Second hand smoking is equally as bad, they say!

I must now perhaps put a complete hold to this swanking and self-gloating that I do with my macho talk-shop stories, because I do honestly feel weary of wasting your time. And it's not on, especially what with the exam approaching fast. You must be bogged down with serious stuff at the mo and all I do is come to Sajha and start woffling on and on! :-) Definitely not on! Good luck with the prep, madam. Take care.

Macho Talk Shop Strories eh?..no need to feel weary at all. I enjoy reading them. There's only so much of Contracts, Labour and Employment and Divorce that I care to devote time to in a day :-)..It's the antidote I need to the countless horrid hours that go by in the library.

As to the fitness part; a bit of work to do that on that front but I do love adventure; however, put a compass in my hand and I haven't a clue as to where I'm supposed to be (which is why you were duly sworn as the commander of the gumba adventure remember?:-))

Living in the Emerald City offers numerous adventure sport activities though. Hiking trails are plentiful and particularly breath taking around the Mt. Rainier area. A group of of my fiesty female law school pals and I have an adventure week planned for Whistler, British Columbia in August. Apparently, the agenda includes bungee jumping, sky diving, mountain biking and something called Trapeeze (where you swing from one control point on a tree top to another in the misdt of a forest of some sort :-))..visions of Tarzan abound :-)! Just as confident as us ladies are about our ability to come back home unscathed, our male pals are equally sure that a caravan of ambulance will have to be placed on hold :-)

As to this non-drinking Tapasya of yours.... temptations, temptations!!..looks like the devil horns will have to make a cameo whilst in London!!

Hope you have a good day. Till later, adieu.

My second reply today then, now that I have received permission to woffle straight from the horse's mouth! :-) Morning madam.

Adventure type eh? Blimey. Compass challenged? Well you can't use GPS - sorry. So, you've got to get used to the crooked little thing! Hey, why not do your internship - your law school permitting - with West Point? Or a quick stint with Fort whatsit (forgot the name, it's near Seattle)? :-) Gosh, but when will I ever get enough of my endless bantering eh? :-)

So they've got a place named after the painter in BC? Whistler? Both BC and Alberta offer fantastic settings to do outdoor activities - been to both places. Some fond memories from there.

Yes Mount Rainier area is lovely - did some skiing in that area many moons ago; forgot the name of the place again.

Bungee jumping, sky diving eh? Blimey. Your lot seem to be pretty feisty indeed! Goodness me. Never heard of Trapeez. Have a good one but I am hoping that this is all happening after your exams are over.

Tapasya.. :-) Temptations, yes one big bull but one perhaps needs both the grace and swagger of a hardy, fearless matador to dodge the knife-edged, spiky 'horns' - and I have those skills in abundance. Ahem. So worry not! :-)

Okay I might shoot off now. Have a good day.
